Welcome to our Pre-School Programme

Thank you for stopping by! As many of you will be new to this dance thing, I want you to know that we are here at anytime to answer your questions and help you find the right classes for you and your child.

So where do we start?

Your child (or you) may have a clear idea of what they will enjoy. If that's the case then please skip along and chose that style...if you are a little unsure or don't really know the difference between these styles please take the time and read the descriptions but in our view you just can't beat trialing the classes!

Rhythmic Rascals

Saturday 9.00

This class is where you will see a huge leap in confidence from the start of the year to the end. This is often a young dancers first experience with large group and other parents watching. But by the end of the year these little ones are ready to dance all by themselves.

Twinkle Toes

3 years old before June 2020

These lovely children twirl and leap around the studio, they are so much fun to watch. At this stage the foundations of ballet are being taught through imagination and creative movement.
Dance is more than just steps, 🌟
Dance helps children mature physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively. The physical benefits of dance are widely accepted, but the emotional, social and cognitive attributes have only recently begun to be appreciated.

Budding Ballerinas

4 years old before June 2020

This is the final step in preschool ballet, by term 3 they formally change to Pre Primary and start learning the work for their first exam (don't worry, these exams are much like training wheels: they are just important so they learn the ropes). By the time they do the Pre School Showcase they no longer need the teacher guiding them all the time and are great at remembering sequences. This is such an important skill that is essential for danced very helpful for for life in general.

These are our newest classes, by popular demand we have added weekday classes. These are for pre schoolers aged between 3-5.  These classes are in our downstairs studios so plenty of room for sleepy siblings in pushchairs.

These classes are based on out Twinkle Toe & Budding Ballerina classes

If ballet isn't for your little one, then maybe the energetic Tiny Tumblers is more their style
This class is fantastic for building strength and learning correct technique foundations. Miss Alaina has amazing knowledge. I love watching this class, my son does it and he loves practicing all the skills from bear walks to crab 🦀 walks and rolls and wall stands. This class never stops!

Originating in Scotland, highland dance is a a traditional dance style to the sound of the bagpipes. Dancers start learning the steps necessary to form a fling.
This is a stamina forming style! and boy are they lucky to have Miss Shelley (10x New Zealand highland champion) and occasionally Mr Angus who is the current New Zealand champion

Pre School ballet are some of my favourite classes to watch, there is just so much joy in music  & dance. With the beautiful guidance of Miss Karli this class is specially designed to encourage imagination, confidence with movement & social groups, cognitive development as well as physical but most importantly a joy of dance.
Petite Petals is our newest class that runs in Term 3 & 4 setting them up for the next level in the new year.

Jazz Bugs

Jazz is a great foundation style of dance, its fun energetic and is done to music children (and adults) listen to currently.
Like all other dance styles dance helps children mature physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively. The physical benefits of dance are widely accepted, but the emotional, social and cognitive attributes have only recently begun to be appreciated.

Some things to remember

  • Although your child may dance all round the house, they may freeze on the first lesson. Please don't worry about this, as it is quite normal; the main thing is not to force it and let them go at their own pace, as this is sometimes a child's first experience in a large group and having an audience.
