Where are they now?

Zoe Gilmore

Over the years many children walk in the studio doors, every so often you meet one you know you will remember forever, they will raise the barre (yes that's a play on ballet terminology not a spelling error) inspire the next generation and leave a huge gap when they more on... so I thought it's time to catch up with them and ask them what they are doing now .....

Since I left danceworks at the end of 2013 I have been all around! I first went to Christchurch where I was doing just over 50 hours a week of ballet, we danced 7 days a week and it was very intense but I improved quickly and loved it! My ballet master Frederic Jahn then moved to Rome to be the director of their national ballet company so I moved to Auckland to complete a diploma in dance and performing arts at New Zealand Performing Arts. Here we studied ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, hiphop, commercial, Chinese, Bollywood, Irish, tango, you name it! Since I graduated in July 2016 I have been doing classes in Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney and have been working professionally in TV commercials, music videos, back up dancing for concerts and show girl work for corporate events. My training at Danceworks was instrumental in my future success as Marika's copious amounts of passion were fed to me over the 4 years that I was lucky enough to have her as a teacher. When I am tired or have had a long rehearsal or a bad rehearsal/performance I just try to remember that I love what I do and I'm so lucky to be able to make a living from performing!
